Paul Nguyen, MHA

President and Chief Executive Officer
Paul Nguyen is the President and CEO of CommuniCare, where he leads the organization with a focus on making it the healthcare provider of choice and the best place to work. As a seasoned healthcare executive, he brings extensive experience in both inpatient and ambulatory services. Mr. Nguyen was recognized as an Outstanding Healthcare Executive with the 2015 San Antonio Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award and was inducted into the Marquis Who’s Who of America in 2020 for his significant accomplishments and leadership in primary care and community health. He also serves on governing boards spanning the banking, health plan, and higher education sectors. Mr. Nguyen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology from Park University and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Webster University.

Ricardo C. Gonzalez

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Ricardo "Rick" Gonzalez is the Chief Financial Officer of CommuniCare and has been with the organization since 2000. He brings over 30 years of experience in the financial field, having previously served as Manager of Financial Operations at CommuniCare before being named CFO in 2002. Prior to joining CommuniCare, Mr. Gonzalez was a financial analyst for the Center for Health Care Services and worked as an accountant for two home health care agencies and a university. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from St. Mary's University in 1992.

Quiara Sherrard, MBA, CPC

Vice President and Chief Operations Officer
Quiara Sherrard has over 15 years of experience in healthcare leadership and revenue cycle management. Before joining CommuniCare, she served as Practice Administrator for Oncology San Antonio and San Antonio Infectious Diseases Consultants. Ms. Sherrard was honored with the 2015 San Antonio Business Journal C-Suite Award for Outstanding Executive Leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a Master of Business Administration with a dual concentration in Healthcare Management and Finance from Park University.

Carlos E. Moreno, MD, MBA

Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer
Dr. Carlos Moreno is a bilingual leader with over 30 years of experience spanning biomedical research and development, academia, and healthcare administration. He is passionate about Collective Impact initiatives and has served as a liaison with state, county, and city government officials to address health disparities in communities. Dr. Moreno earned his Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from medical school in the Dominican Republic and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Vice President and Chief Performance and Innovation Officer
C. Sean Adams is an accomplished healthcare finance professional with over 20 years of experience. He specializes in identifying and implementing innovative business solutions, improving processes and efficiency, and delivering actionable business intelligence focused on performance improvement. Mr. Adams' background includes executive leadership and financial auditing roles for healthcare organizations across the United States. He holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Finance and Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Texas.

Fred Poordad, MD

Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Fred Poordad is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking research in liver disease. Honored by US News and World Report as one of the top 1% of physicians in his field, he serves on numerous scientific advisory boards and educational committees, including those for the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the American Society of Transplantation, and the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Poordad is also active on the editorial boards of several journals and is a regular peer reviewer. In 2020, he received the San Antonio Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award for Outstanding Medical Researcher. He earned his medical degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

Bernice Gonzalez, MD, ABAARM

Vice President and Chief Functional Health Officer
Dr. Bernice Gonzalez is a board-certified Family Medicine Physician with expertise in hormonal disorders, functional medicine, and anti-aging and regenerative medicine. She has received numerous honors, including the 2006 San Antonio’s Top Physician, the 2022 Women Leaders in Medicine Award, and recognition as a Lifetime Member of the Cambridge Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals. Dr. Gonzalez earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Michael Hernandez, JD

Chief Privacy Officer and General Counsel
Michael Hernandez is a San Antonio native with over 20 years of legal experience, specializing in healthcare law for the past decade. He began his professional career in New York and California before returning to central Texas. Mr. Hernandez holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Architecture from the University of California - Berkeley, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary's Law School.

Violetta Roller, DDS

Chief Dental Officer
Dr. Violetta Roller, a native of Carrizo Springs, Texas, earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at San Antonio and her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She began her career at CommuniCare in 2005 as a staff dentist and was promoted to Chief Dental Officer in 2010. Dr. Roller has received the Top Dentist Award in both 2012 and 2016 and is featured in Texas MD Monthly Magazine as one of the top dentists in the Southwest Texas Region.

Robert Milks, MA

Chief Strategic Officer
Robert "Bob" Milks is an entrepreneurial leader with over 30 years of experience in organizational development and change management. Originally from New York, he has called Texas home for the past 17 years. Since joining CommuniCare in 2009, Mr. Milks has led the organization’s service expansion into Hays County and has focused on driving innovation and refining internal processes to improve operational efficiency. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education and a Master of Arts in Management from Wayland Baptist University.

Marisol Cortez

Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer

Marisol Cortez brings over 20 years of nonprofit experience in accounting, marketing, and fundraising to her role at CommuniCare, which she joined in August 2010. As the Chief Marketing & Advancement Officer, she oversees the grants, fundraising, marketing, public and community relations, and partnership development. Mrs. Cortez’s diverse background includes positions as Development Director for the American Lung Association, Fiscal Officer for the City of San Antonio, and owner of a marketing and web consulting business. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing from St. Mary's University.
